FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?
David Smith provides custom-tailored photographic artwork for hotels, restaurants, and commercial interiors, specializing in images that reflect local landscapes, architecture, and the unique story of your property. Each piece is curated to enhance ambiance and guest experience, with options for exclusive commissions and site-specific portfolios.
How does the commissioning process work?
Start with a conversation. Discuss your vision, the atmosphere you want to create, and the story you want your guests to experience. Together, we determine the style, locations, and color palette for your photographic artwork. My photography services are provided on a Flat Fee basis with no photographer mark-up on the final product. There is no up-sale to worry about. Once details are finalized, images are created or curated specifically for your project. We can utilize the discounts I have with my print partner or utilized a print partner your organization prefers.
Why choose bespoke photography over stock art?
Bespoke photographic art is intentional and curated to reflect your specific space and brand. It creates authenticity and a sense of place that generic stock art cannot provide, giving your guests a connection to your location and story.
Can I request exclusive rights to the artwork?
Yes. The images are Yours and Yours Alone. Your organization will have the full rights to the images for whatever purpose you want. The site-specific artwork will not be sold to or displayed by other businesses, helping ensure your interior design remains unique.
What types of subjects do you photograph?
Subjects range from local landscapes and city scenes to abstract textures, urban details, and natural environments. Each commission is carefully tailored to harmonize with your location and design goals.
Do you provide high-resolution prints and installation options?
Yes. Artwork is delivered as ultra-high-resolution prints suited for display in hospitality and commercial spaces. Options for large-scale wall art, framed photography, and custom installations are available to fit your needs. We will review your image choices, decide on sizes, materials, framing, etc., collaboratively.
How long does a project typically take?
Project timelines vary based on the scale and complexity of the request. There are additional considerations including weather conditions, access to certain geographic locations, etc. Photography timeline can range from 1-2 weeks depending on the above-mentioned factors. Image editing might comprise an additional business week. Review and selection of the final image set would occur, depending on the photography and editing schedule, within 3 weeks. Print orders can be completed within an additional 1-2 weeks. Realistically, from initial consultation to installation, depending on the level of site specificity and production requirements, you should allow for approximately 60 days. Specific to the photography schedule, I will only work one project at a time.
Are digital display or licensing options available?
Yes. In addition to traditional prints, digital licensing for in-room displays or promotional use are part of your project package.
What is your guarantee?
I request a retainer at the initiation of our agreement. My final fee is not payable until the print orders are executed. If during the review process your property leadership or consultant is not completely satisfied with the image results, I will re-shoot those particular images or additional images you request or we can cancel the agreement with no images provided to your organization and no further photographer fees due. The retainer is non-refundable.
